The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers - to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.

To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and "LEAP" career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The Flushing YMCA is seeking a Beacon Outreach Coordinator who will play a critical role in the successful operation of the Beacon Program. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support to outreach and community inclusion efforts. • Effectively forge relationships with youth who are chronically absent or have dropped out of school and persuade them to engage in Beacon programming and school.

  • Act as a "credible messenger", maintain strong community connections, and address conflicts that have the potential to undermine community cohesion and trigger violent clashes.

  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information and recruitment in communities that might otherwise attend beacon programming.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders and parents/guardians through regular communication.

  • Ensure participants' health, safety, and well-being by understanding, maintaining, and ensuring that staff and participants follow Risk Management and safety procedures.

  • Report all incidents in accordance with the Y policies and procedures.

  • Work with Counselors and the Beacon Director to plan and implement meaningful programming and special events.

  • Support the development and facilitation of required pre-program training. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.

  • Adhere to all Department of Health, Department of Education, DYCD, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards, expectations, and regulations.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of education in a program area related to working with youth and/or communities.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth, families, and community development, including social and emotional learning, skill-building, youth leadership, neighborhood priorities, trauma-informed approaches, provision of services for individuals with disabilities, and cultural competence, including sensitivity to LGBTQ issues.
