Job summary

The Flushing YMCA Beacon Center at JHS 189, Queens, NY is seeking a Beacon Outreach Coordinator to lead outreach and community inclusion efforts for youth at risk of dropping out or chronic absence. You will build relationships, promote engagement in Beacon programming, and serve as a credible messenger to connect youth with school and programs.

Role emphasizes collaboration with counselors and the Beacon Director, participation in training, and adherence to DOH/DOE/DYCD and funder standards

Qualifications

Minimum of two years of education in a program area related to working with youth and/or communities.
Minimum of one year of experience working with youth, families, and community development, including social and emotional learning, leadership, trauma-informed approaches, cultural competence.
General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

Promote an inclusive, welcoming environment that respects staff and participants.
Facilitate outreach to hard-to-reach youth and young adults who do not participate in afterschool programs.
Forge relationships with chronically absent or out-of-school youth and engage them in Beacon programming.
Coordinate marketing and recruitment in communities that might otherwise attend beacon programming.
