Job summary

Basalite Building Products, LLC is seeking a dependable Yard Loader to support loading/unloading in the production area. You will operate a forklift to move materials, assist drivers, and help maintain safe yard conditions. Strong reliability and safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year truck loading experience.
• Must be forklift certified or able to become Basalite-certified.
• Good communication and ability to follow directions.
• Basic reading, writing and math skills.
• Working knowledge of plant operating and inventory systems.
• Ability to operate a forklift and load/unload vehicles safely in all weather.
• Valid driver's license.
• Regular attendance is required.

Responsibilities

• Load product onto customer vehicles and trailers per instructions.
• Instruct and guide truck drivers and customers as needed.
• Unload, stage and transport material to storage locations.
• Sort, pack, stack and wrap products for transport.
• Weigh materials to ensure loads are safe and compliant.
• Monitor and maintain yard inventory in an orderly manner.
• Participate in inventory counts (two Saturdays per year).
• Maintain clean and safe work areas as directed.
• Perform forklift pre-inspections and report issues.
• Report damages immediately to management.
• Attend safety meetings and observe all rules.
• Regular attendance is required.

WHAT THIS ROLE LOOKS LIKE:

Under the supervision of the Office Manager, this position supports the yard in all areas of loading/unloading in the production area; and is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Loads product onto customer vehicles and trailers (all sizes), per management instruction and/or sales orders generated by customer service counter personnel.
• Professionally and pleasantly instruct and/or guide truck drivers, customers when/as necessary.
• Unload, stage and/or transport material to their proper storage location throughout the facility.
• Sort, pack, stack and wrap products for transport or storage when/as required.
• Weigh materials when necessary to ensure loads are safe and legal per regulatory standards.
• Monitor and maintain yard inventory in an orderly and safe manner.
• Participates in inventory count; two Saturday’s a year
• Maintain work areas according to company specifications for cleanliness and safety.
• Perform clean-up work throughout the plant as assigned by the Yard Superintendent.
• Perform daily routine pre-inspections of the forklift; reports problems or potential repair issues to the Yard Superintendent.
• Reports any damages (product, customer transport, forklift) immediately to management.
• Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported to the Plant Superintendent and/or Plant EHS Coordinator and are corrected.
• Regular attendance is required

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of one (1) year truck loading experience required
• On-the-job training experience is required to be able to perform duties and become forklift certified by Basalite
• Requires good communication skills and ability to listen and follow directions
• Requires basic reading, writing and math skills
• Requires a working knowledge of plant operating and inventory systems.
• Ability to operate a forklift and load/unload trucks, trailers and other vehicles (including ramps) efficiently, quickly and safely in all kinds of weather.
• Valid drivers license.
• Regular attendance is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Standing, walking, sitting, talking/listening, climbing (up-and-down from a forklift), stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms.
• Lifting frequently 25-75 lbs.; and 75-100 pounds occasionally.
