Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Compiles, prepares and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and activities.
  • Maintains student records, attendance, grading, and assists with testing and projects.
  • Supervises students during bus loading, field trips, lunch and school activities.

Education

Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood

Job Functions
  • Provides assistance to assigned teachers in maintaining a well‑organized, smoothly functioning classroom for the benefit of both teachers and students.
  • Assists students with exercises and class activities; concentrates efforts with small groups of students and individuals as necessary.
  • Compiles, prepares and organizes materials and classroom for instruction and classroom activities.
  • Assists in cleaning and storing of materials after completion of activities.
  • Reinforces all knowledge and skills taught by the classroom teacher.
  • Assists teacher by maintaining student records, recording daily attendance, grading assignments, administering standardized tests, recording and/or analyzing test scores/grades, substituting as needed, setting up special projects, escorting children to other areas of the school, monitoring student behavior, and running errands.
  • Supervises and assists students when unloading and loading buses, in the halls, on field trips, during testing, during lunch, during computer lab, and on school grounds.
  • Assists in establishing and implementing behavioral objectives. Models appropriate social and play skills; observes students’ behavior and notifies teacher and/or school nurse of behavioral changes as appropriate; redirects behavior if possible; may work with individual students to help them adjust behaviorally and academically into mainstream classroom and social situations.
  • Attends staff meetings as required; participates in in‑service training programs; keeps abreast of developments in areas of assignment.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and records, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, preparing notices and newsletters, receiving and responding to e‑mails.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Teacher Assistant - 8:45 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. – Monday – Friday.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood.
  • Or two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours) from an accredited institution.
  • Or three (3) years of experience working with children in a professional educational setting.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit on the floor depending on the age of the children. The employee may frequently push or lift up to 50 lbs. 0 – 12 feet and on occasion up to 20 feet, such as books and supplies or student equipment or wheelchairs. Frequently the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person, may need to lift arms to write on chalk or marking board and frequently stoop, kneel, crouch and reach 0 – 24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well‑being and work output of other people. Frequently lifting children is also required for this role. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
