We are seeking enthusiastic educators to join our team! The Teacher’s Assistant is responsible for supporting the lead teacher in ensuring the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care, which may include toddlers and/or preschool age children. Must be willing and able to maintain control of the classroom in all aspects in the absence of the Lead Teacher. Teacher’s assistant should also be familiar with and adhere to all compliance with codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies are being met.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist lead teachers in planning, designing and implementing curriculum
  2. Provide assistance in preparing lesson plans
  3. Impart classroom instruction in accordance to lesson plans
  4. Supervise and control students during class and when the lead teacher is not present
  5. Assist students with carrying out classroom activities
  6. Assist students during lunch time
  7. Observe students for developmental issues and communicate findings to lead teachers
  8. Implement age appropriate activities and monitor safety throughout
  9. Research information for lesson development
  10. Communicate progress and observations to parents
  11. Maintain student records and perform other clerical tasks
  12. Help in maintaining a clean and organized classroom
  13. Ensure sanitation of all surfaces, equipment and toys
  14. Assist students in social skills development
  15. Assist in putting up bulletins
  16. Accompany young students to the bathroom
  17. Operate equipment such as projectors and computers for instructional purposes
  18. Maintain appropriate classroom discipline and decorum
  19. Prepare and distribute worksheets
  20. Ensure that students retain information by repeating information constantly and practicing patience
  21. Deliver instruction in the absence of lead teacher
  22. Complete assigned daily cleaning tasks for the center overall
Skills & Abilities:
  1. Early Child Development knowledge and experience.
  2. Knowledge in Desired Results, Developmental Appropriate Practices.
  3. Knowledge of State Subsidized Program Requirements for Center Programs.
  4. Effective communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude /disposition.
  5. Ability to use the computer to input developmental data.
  6. Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities.
  7. Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being.
  8. Must be able to manage confidential information.
  9. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40 pound child.
  10. All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children and adolescents who are served by our agency. Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, aggression and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.

  1. Frequently walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear.
  2. Often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat or crawl.
  3. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40 pound child.
  4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  5. May occasionally be required to drive a motor vehicle.
