JOB TITLE: BBB/21st CCLC Tutor/Homework - $20 per hour

DEPARTMENT: 21st CCLC Barren Beyond the Bell Afterschool

REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator/Community Ed. Director

Overview:

Engage and inspire school-age children to learn and become responsible adults. Assist students with homework on various levels of study. Oversee the core programs of the students by planning, developing, and implementing programs and activities that support the organization's standards. Must monitor and evaluate situations quickly using good judgment to assess conditions and make decisions. Create and maintain a safe environment for members and adults within the program space. Communicate with parents as necessary regarding behavior issues and events.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students while they complete homework.
  • Work individually and in small groups with members to enrich their skills in math, reading, writing, and other academic areas, as well as address their social and emotional needs.
  • For this position, there will be a specialized focus on reading and math.
  • Encourage students to participate in homework completion and enrichment activities.
  • Assist members with homework completion and enrichment activities.
  • Provide positive guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Complete all training hours as required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or in the process of obtaining one.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Experience tutoring or mentoring youth preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Attend ALL staff meetings and special training for employees.
  • All staff participate in special programs and events.

Teachers Requirement:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skills, and/or abilities.   • B.A./B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field, with Kentucky State certification in teaching in the appropriate subject area.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the afterschool program.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology. Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, and state.

Physical Requirements: Helping members grow, learn, and gain new skills can be rewarding. The work is sometimes routine, but new activities and challenges mark each day. Youth development can be physically and emotionally taxing, as workers constantly stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift (25 pounds frequently) to attend to each member's interests and problems.

All employees working at a school-based location are expected to follow the calendar year of Barren County School District. Therefore, when the school is not in operation, you will only have work if specified by your supervisor.
