Job summary

The AI Policy Network in the Bay Area seeks a Director of Donor Relations to cultivate and close major gifts from tech professionals, founders, and high-net-worth donors. You will manage a growing portfolio and lead events across Berkeley, San Francisco, and virtual spaces, collaborating with the Head of Development.

Ideal candidates have deep Bay Area relationships in AI safety communities and a proven major gifts track record, translating policy missions into compelling donor engagement.

Qualifications

• Proven fundraising record for closing high-value commitments.
• Existing relationships within the Bay Area AI safety or tech philanthropic networks.
• Working knowledge of nonprofit and political giving frameworks, including 501(c)(4) structures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for complex policy audiences.
• Experience using donor databases and pipeline management systems.
• Based in or willing to relocate to the Berkeley/Bay Area with in-person engagement.

Responsibilities

• Major Gifts Cultivation and Solicitation.
• Manage a portfolio of 75–150 donors and prospects with gifts ranging from $10,000 to $500,000+.
• Conduct discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings with Bay Area tech leaders and philanthropists.
• Partner with the Executive Director on strategy for top-tier donor relationships and multi-year opportunities.
• Develop tailored engagement plans including outreach, policy briefings, and leadership access.
• Draft gift proposals, acknowledgment letters, and impact reports; coordinate with finance.
• Coordinate civic engagement programs and connect donors to aligned opportunities.
