Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Battery Test and Validation Engineer II (Safety and Abuse) to ensure high‑voltage battery systems meet safety, reliability, and regulatory standards. You will own critical test streams on packs, modules, and subsystems, working with cross‑functional engineering teams to run, analyze, and optimize abuse test methodologies.

Responsibilities include planning and executing safety tests per UN38.3, FMVSS, IEC, UL; developing test plans; analyzing data; compiling reports; and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
• 2+ years of related experience
• Strong understanding of heat transfer and electrical governing equations
• Hands-on experience with battery test equipment and data analysis software
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to travel up to 30% (domestic/international)

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and analyze safety and abuse tests on battery modules, packs, and components
• Develop and refine test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria per regulatory standards
• Analyze test data and generate detailed technical reports
• Conduct post-test reviews with cross-functional teams
• Drive continuous improvements in test methodologies and data quality
• Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes
