Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Battery Technician in our Maintenance department. You will be accountable for changing, rotating, and charging batteries, performing preventative maintenance, cleaning batteries and work areas, and conducting minor repairs of cables and housings on batteries and chargers.

The role requires adherence to safety protocols, the ability to lift 50–100 pounds occasionally and 25–50 pounds frequently, and a willingness to support warehouse operations in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must pass Distribution Physical and Drug Screen.
• Forklift license must be valid and current.
• Good general maintenance skills, ability to operate equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs service and repair on building facility, including carpentry and painting as needed.
• Maintains and services batteries, including watering, cleaning, and simple repairs.
• Organizes battery rooms and changes out batteries as required.
• Assists skilled maintenance personnel in facility installation and maintenance tasks.
• Reports to work on schedule and adheres to policies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs service and repair on building facility requiring ability to perform the physical requirements exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
• Complies with all safety and sanitation programs.
• Performs battery maintenance, including watering, cleaning and simple repair by following a checklist.
• Organizes the battery rooms daily and changes out batteries as needed.
• Assists skilled maintenance personnel in installation and maintenance of facility including carpentry, painting.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
• Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines.

Education and Experience

Physical Requirements

• This is a semi-skilled position. This is considered heavy work according to the Department Labor Weight Classifications.
• Requires frequent manual, motor and finger dexterity, standing, seeing, bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, pulling and visual acuity

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are performed in a warehouse setting. There is exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemical or solvents, and electrical shock. There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job

Must provide own hand tools. Battery chargers, load bank, volt and amp meters, plastic welder, torch oxygen and acetylene, drill, power washer, walker and fork lift
