Job summary

Hy-Vee Inc is seeking a Battery Technician in our Maintenance department. You will be responsible for changing, rotating and charging batteries, performing preventative maintenance, cleaning batteries, and handling minor repairs to cables and housings.

The role requires lifting and physical activity, adherence to safety and sanitation standards, and teamwork with warehouse staff. A forklift license and prior maintenance experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent experience.
• Previous general maintenance experience preferred.
• Must pass Distribution Physical and Drug Screen.
• Forklift license.
• Good general maintenance skills and ability to operate equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs building facility service and repair with heavy physical effort.
• Complies with all safety and sanitation programs.
• Performs battery maintenance, including watering, cleaning and simple repairs per checklist.
• Organizes the battery rooms daily and changes out batteries as needed.
• Assists skilled maintenance personnel in installation and maintenance of facility including carpentry and painting.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
• Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines.

General Function: Accountable for changing batteries, rotating and charging batteries in the proper cycle, preventative maintenance, cleaning batteries and work area, minor repairs of cables and housings on batteries and chargers.

Accountable and Reports to: Distribution Maintenance Supervisor, Asst. Department Manager Maintenance. Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs service and repair on building facility requiring ability to perform the physical requirements exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
• Complies with all safety and sanitation programs.
• Performs battery maintenance, including watering, cleaning and simple repair by following a checklist.
• Organizes the battery rooms daily and changes out batteries as needed.
• Assists skilled maintenance personnel in installation and maintenance of facility including carpentry, painting.

Physical Requirements

This is a semi-skilled position. This is considered heavy work according to the Department Labor Weight Classifications.

Requires frequent manual, motor and finger dexterity, standing, seeing, bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, pulling and visual acuity.

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are performed in a warehouse setting.

There is exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemical or solvents, and electrical shock.

There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a day.

Must provide own hand tools.
