Job summary

Staff Management | SMX is seeking a Pilot Plant Technician in Westlake, OH to support R&D through pilot-scale trials and process development on the alkaline line. You will maintain throughput, operate separator handling, electrolyte filling, and cell assembly equipment, and collect data for real-time feedback.

The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical skills, 2–5 years of experience, and the ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of technical, laboratory, pilot plant, or manufacturing experience.
• Associate-level coursework (or equivalent) in science, engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Execute pilot-scale trials to evaluate new materials, designs, and process improvements.
• Operate and maintain equipment used in separator handling, electrolyte filling, and cell assembly.
• Support development and optimization of separator materials and related processes.
• Manage and process raw materials into finished products to support new technology development.
• Collect, measure, and analyze data; provide real-time feedback to R&D teams.
• Troubleshoot process and equipment issues and work cross-functionally to resolve them.
• Maintain safety protocols including chemical handling and LOTO procedures.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions and support continuous safety improvements.
• Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards within the pilot line.
• Participate in continuous improvement and team-based problem-solving initiatives.
