Job summary

Ford is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to serve as the technical resource for battery pack assembly systems, processes, and equipment. You will mentor engineers on best practices, troubleshoot issues, and help advance assembly technologies.

You will support DFA/DFM during concept studies, contribute to PFMEAs and control plans, and ensure alignment with BoP, E2KS, and MDS/MPS standards while enabling end-to-end traceability and robust validation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • 5+ years manufacturing engineering experience in assembly/automation environments, with deep technical expertise in battery pack or similar high-volume assembly systems.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Direct experience supporting greenfield/brownfield battery module or battery pack assembly facilities (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of automated assembly systems, conveyance, and robotics (preferred).

Job description

  • Serve as the go-to technical resource for manufacturing engineers on battery pack assembly systems, processes, and equipment.
  • Mentor and coach engineers on best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and emerging assembly technologies.
  • Support technical training initiatives and contribute to the development of internal technical standards and guides.
  • Provide technical input on Design for Assembly / Design for Manufacturing (DFA/DFM) during early concept and feasibility studies.
  • Support Core Program Team requirements, including OneSpot/Functional Specifications, process sheets, build sequences, and equipment takt time.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for the design, procurement, and integration of assembly stations, transport systems (conveyance, robotics, material handling), and test equipment.
  • Support make-like-production and machine tryout part procurement strategies for physical build phases.
  • Contribute to the development and governance of PFMEAs, and collaborate with Product Development on Safety and Critical Characteristics Association Forms (SCCAFs) and Control Plans (DCP).
  • Ensure technical alignment with Bill of Process (BoP), Equipment Standard (E2KS), and Manufacturing Delivery/Program Standards (MDS/MPS).
  • Provide technical expertise on GDT, dimensional stack-up analysis, vision systems, error-proofing, and end-to-end component traceability.
  • Support MIDAS deliverables for equipment validation and lead technical issue resolution (PDCA) from builds through Rate of Climb (RoC).
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related).
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in assembly, automation-intensive, or launch environments, with demonstrated deep technical expertise in battery pack or similar high-volume assembly systems.
  • Masters degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or equivalent advanced technical training (preferred).
  • Direct experience supporting greenfield, brownfield, or major retool battery module or battery pack assembly manufacturing facilities (preferred).
  • Strong technical understanding of automated assembly systems, conveyance, and robotics (preferred).
  • Deep technical proficiency in joining technologies (adhesives, sealants, fastening, welding) (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience with virtual engineering tools, simulation, virtual commissioning, AutoCAD, TeamCenter, and Aurora (preferred).
  • Proven familiarity with Ford BME governance, DPA5 engineering workflows, and MDS/MPS (preferred).
  • Understanding of Industrial Engineering and ergonomic principles; experience in Program Delivery preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
