The Role
Lead the engineering vision, strategy, and execution for battery pack and module development. You will be responsible for driving technical excellence across multiple battery programs while building and leading a multidisciplinary engineering organization. This role combines deep battery systems expertise with executive-level leadership, requiring the ability to guide product development from concept through production while influencing technology roadmaps, customer relationships, and business growth.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute the engineering strategy for battery pack and module development, aligning technical initiatives with business objectives
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams across mechanical, electrical, systems, thermal, and validation engineering disciplines
- Lead the design, development, testing, and production launch of lithium-ion battery systems across multiple applications and programs
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with program management, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, software, and BMS teams
- Own technical decision-making, architecture development, design reviews, and risk mitigation strategies
- Represent the business in customer-facing technical discussions, presentations, and executive reviews
- Develop and maintain technology roadmaps, identifying opportunities to adopt emerging battery technologies, materials, and development tools
- Ensure products meet applicable safety, regulatory, and certification requirements including UL, ISO, SAE, IEC, and other industry standards
- Establish engineering processes, documentation standards, BOM management, and change control procedures to support scalable product development
- Lead technical responses to evolving business needs, new product initiatives, and organizational growth opportunities
- Drive continuous improvement in product performance, safety, manufacturability, and cost optimization
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline (Master's or PhD preferred)
- 10+ years of engineering experience with significant focus on lithium-ion battery systems, electrified propulsion, or energy storage technologies
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing and developing technical teams
- Proven experience leading the design, development, validation, and launch of battery packs, modules, or related energy storage systems
- Deep understanding of battery pack architecture, system integration, thermal management, electrical design, and battery management systems (BMS)
- Experience with engineering tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar CAD platforms
- Strong knowledge of battery safety, certification, and compliance requirements including UL, ISO, SAE, and IEC standards
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical programs in fast-paced, high-growth environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with experience presenting to customers, executives, and cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing battery systems for aerospace, automotive, commercial vehicle, industrial, or stationary energy storage applications
- Background in BMS software, controls, battery algorithms, or system-level controls integration
- Expertise in thermal management, structural battery design, or advanced battery testing and validation
- Experience with battery modeling, simulation, and performance analysis tools
- Familiarity with manufacturing scale-up, NPI, DFMEA, DVP&R, and APQP processes
- Program or project management experience leading complex, multi-disciplinary development efforts
- Track record of driving innovation while balancing technical risk, cost, quality, and schedule requirements
