Batch Operator

Job Description

The Batch Operator safely and efficiently operates a yard switcher and supports bulk loading operations by transferring finished goods and raw materials into bulk tank wagons. This hybrid role combines driving, material handling, and batch loading activities, requiring careful attention to weight verification, documentation, and proper staging of tankers. The position plays a key role in supporting production by moving trailers on site and ensuring all loading operations follow safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a yard switcher to move trailers and tankers around the facility to support production needs.
  • Load finished goods and raw materials into bulk tank wagons following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Weigh tankers in and out on the company scale and verify that all paperwork accurately matches the assigned tanker and related materials.
  • Properly stage tankers and inspect all connections from storage tanks or blend vessels to the tanker before loading materials.
  • Ensure all hoses, valves, and related equipment are correctly connected, secured, and functioning prior to and during loading.
  • Move trailers on site, including drum trailers, between the dock and the yard as needed to support production and shipping activities.
  • Handle drums and other containers safely, including moving drums up to specified weight limits using a forklift or similar equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with shift supervisors and managers regarding any issues, delays, or abnormalities in loading or trailer movement.
  • Follow all safety protocols and site procedures while working in production, mixing, blending, and batch operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in a dirty and high‑traffic production environment.
  • Work independently while contributing to a team environment, ensuring coordination with other operators and departments.
  • Adapt to working in varying temperatures and conditions, including cold winters and hot summers with open doors.
  • Stand for extended periods, walk long distances, and work in small spaces or at high locations as required by the job.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to safely move drums up to 500 pounds using a forklift or similar equipment as directed.
  • Current or previous forklift certification obtained through prior employment.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors and indoors in both winter and summer conditions.
  • Capability to stand for long periods and walk great distances daily in a production environment.
  • Ability to work in confined or small spaces and at high locations when required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift bags and other containers up to 50 pounds safely as directed.
  • Strong communication skills to report issues, delays, and operational concerns to supervisors and managers.
  • Comfort working in production, mixing, blending, batch mixing, and chemical‑related operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Chemical knowledge related to handling, mixing, or loading chemical products.
  • Previous experience as a Chemical Operator or in a similar chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in batch mixing, batching, or blending operations.
  • Experience in manufacturing or production environments involving bulk loading or tank wagon operations.

Work Environment

The work environment is a busy production and bulk loading facility where operators support manufacturing, mixing, blending, and batching activities. Conditions can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer due to doors being open and frequent movement of trailers and tankers. The area can be dirty, reflecting an active industrial setting. You will work as part of a team but perform most tasks independently, coordinating with other operators and supervisors as needed. The role requires comfort with working both indoors and outdoors, standing and walking for extended periods, and operating forklifts and yard switchers in a fast‑paced, safety‑focused environment. The position follows a third‑shift schedule from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with current operations running 10‑hour days.

This is a Contract position based out of Detroit, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $20.50/hr.
