Job summary

The Town of East Longmeadow is seeking a part-time Basketball Monitor to oversee the gymnasium and basketball facilities during scheduled programs. You will help keep the environment safe, welcoming, and well organized for players, coaches, officials, and spectators.

Under the direction of Recreation staff, you will address issues, assist with setup/breakdown, and report incidents according to recreation policies.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• First Aid Certification preferred.
• Prior experience in facility supervision preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Follow Opening and Closing Checklist Duties as defined by the recreation department.
• Monitor facility use and ensure participants follow recreation department rules and facility policies.
• Help maintain a safe and positive environment for players, coaches, officials, and spectators.
• Monitor gymnasium activity and address minor issues appropriately.
• Report injuries, safety concerns, facility damage, or other incidents to Recreation staff.
• Ensure equipment and facility spaces are used appropriately.
• Help with basic setup and breakdown of basketball equipment and activities.
• Provide directions and general assistance to participants and visitors.
• Communicate with coaches, referees, Recreation staff, and facility users as needed.
• Complete any required facility or incident reports.
• Follow all East Longmeadow Recreation policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Recreation Department

Part-Time, Non-Union: up to 19 hours per week - Evenings/Weekends - Basketball Season

Salary: $16.50 - $18.50/hour

General Description

Under the direction of the Deputy Recreation Director, the monitor oversees the gymnasium and basketball facilities during scheduled programs and activities. This position helps ensure that the facility remains safe, clean, organized, and welcoming for participants, coaches, officials, and spectators.

Primary Essential Functions

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Must be dependable, punctual, and responsible.
• Ability to interact positively and professionally with children, families, coaches, and the public.
• Strong communication skills. Ability to remain attentive and alert while monitoring facility activities.
• Previous experience in recreation, athletics, customer service, or facility supervision is preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of basketball and youth sports is helpful.

Education And Experience

• Prior experience in facility supervision preferred
• First Aid Certification preferred
• Must be 18 or older
