Job summary

Virginia Tech Hokie Wellness seeks a BASICS Intervention Specialist to join the Services for Students with Disabilities team in Blacksburg, VA. The role involves facilitating BASICS sessions with higher-risk students (mandated and self-referred) to explore substances' impact on goals, using Motivational Interviewing to drive change.

The position is 1500-hour, non-benefited with a hybrid work arrangement after training, reporting to the Assistant Director for Substance Misuse Prevention.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in health education, health promotion, public health, human development, psychology, social work, or related field.
• Experience providing direct services to people with substance use diagnoses.
• Experience with case management and record keeping.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with public speaking experience; small group facilitation; and 1:1 coaching.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate individual BASICS sessions for higher-risk students (mandated and self-referred).
• Use Motivational Interviewing to explore substance use and its impact on goals.
• Apply BASICS model; two-session structure with feedback report to motivate change.
