Job summary

The Baseball Operations Trainee is a seasonal, part-time role designed to provide hands-on stadium operations and event management experience for individuals aiming for a pro sports career. You will support Durham Bulls games and events across guest services, hospitality, parking, and facility operations.

Typical season runs February–September (4–7 months). Hours vary and include evenings, weekends, and holidays; training will cover safety, operations, and teamwork in a fast-paced live-event

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supports the setup, operation, and breakdown of Durham Bulls games and other stadium events.
• Assists with guest services by answering questions, providing directions, and helping resolve concerns in a professional manner.
• Supports hospitality operations, including preparing event spaces and assisting with guest and group needs.
• Assists with parking operations and helps maintain safe, organized pedestrian and vehicle flow.
• Completes facility preparation, inspections, light cleaning, and event reset tasks as assigned.
• Monitors assigned areas during events and promptly communicates safety, facility, or guest-service concerns to a supervisor.
• Works with full-time staff, seasonal employees, vendors, and other departments to support efficient event execution.
• Follows established safety procedures, stadium policies, and emergency protocols.
• Maintains a flexible, team-oriented approach while rotating among operational assignments.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned, provided they are reasonably related to the responsibilities outlined in this job description.

Overview

The Baseball Operations Trainee is a seasonal, part-time position designed to provide hands-on stadium operations and event management experience for individuals interested in a career in professional sports. The trainee supports Durham Bulls games and other events across guest services, hospitality, parking, facility management, and event operations. The position generally runs between February and September for approximately four to seven months, depending on the candidate's availability and organizational needs. Hours vary based on the event schedule and include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Current enrollment in or recent completion of a sport management, hospitality, event management, business, or related program.
• Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, athletics, live events, facilities, or venue operations.
• Experience working collaboratively in a team-based environment.
• Interest in pursuing a career in professional sports or event operations.
• Familiarity with event-day operations or guest-service standards.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events.
• Ability to move throughout the ballpark, including stairs, ramps, concourses, seating areas, and service spaces.
• Ability to bend, crouch, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive event setup and breakdown tasks.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment, supplies, or materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.
• Clear vision and hearing sufficient to communicate with guests and coworkers and respond to activity in a live-event environment.

Work Conditions

• Work is performed throughout the ballpark in indoor and outdoor areas and may involve heat, cold, rain, humidity, and changing weather conditions.
• The event environment may include crowds, elevated noise levels, bright lights, and frequent interaction with the public.
• Schedules vary based on games and events and may include long shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
