Job summary

The Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean, WV seeks an Operations Lead for Base Camp, overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, and logistics to keep programs, guests, and staff safe and comfortable.

You will assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, setup of Base Camp HQ, maintaining camp cleanliness, inventory, and ensuring safety protocols. Strong teamwork and customer service are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old with a valid U.S. driver’s license.
• 2+ years of leading teams; Summit experience preferred.
• Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (background screening).
• Proficient with Microsoft Teams for daily work communications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area.
• Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership.
• Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and scheduling of Base Camp staff

• Maintain camp cleanliness, supply inventory, and proper waste disposal procedures
• Enforce safety protocols and ensure proper use of vehicles and equipment
• Support smooth arrival/departure operations and provide responsive service to all guests and staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 18+
• Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to obtain Summit Driving Permit
• Required 2+ yr. leading teams, prefer 2+ Summit employment
• Preferred: Scouting/Camping experience
• Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
• Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication

Physical & Practical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and hike up to 9 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
• Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
• Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 45-55
