Job summary

L2x Talent Solutions is seeking a Field Engineer for building automation projects in Tinley Park, Illinois. You will perform checkout, verification, and documentation for equipment on assigned projects, ensuring compliance with specifications.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in building automation, strong troubleshooting, and experience reading drawings and schematics. You will coordinate with Project Managers and Engineers on-site and maintain safety and accurate logs.

Qualifications

• Degree or hands-on experience in engineering or HVAC technology.
• 3+ years in building automation, controls, or field engineering.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
• Experience with BAS platforms listed.

Responsibilities

• Perform point-to-point checkout and verification of all equipment on assigned projects.
• Complete detailed checkout documentation, including all physical points and equipment locations.
• Verify hardware installation in accordance with project specifications and guidelines.
• Identify and document offsets, calibrations, issues, and system failures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with field devices, controllers, and system components.
• Escalate issues outside of scope via service tickets or to supervisors/technical support.
• Communicate daily with Project Managers, Engineers, and Field Supervisors on project status.
• Maintain accurate daily logs of completed work and system checkout progress.

Job description

• Perform point-to-point checkout and verification of all equipment on assigned projects
• Complete detailed checkout documentation, including all physical points and equipment locations
• Verify hardware installation in accordance with project specifications and guidelines
• Identify and document offsets, calibrations, issues, and system failures
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with field devices, controllers, and system components
• Escalate issues outside of scope via service tickets or to supervisors/technical support
• Communicate daily with Project Managers, Engineers, and Field Supervisors on project status
• Maintain accurate daily logs of completed work and system checkout progress
• Document equipment tested, issues encountered, and resolutions
• Record any job site challenges, including coordination issues with other trades
• Ensure all documentation is clear, complete, and submitted consistently
• Review and understand project scope, drawings, and specifications
• Interpret submittals, mechanical plans, and control schematics
• Track assigned hours and maintain productivity within project budgets
• Identify potential change orders and communicate findings to leadership
• Arrive on time and prepared for all job site assignments and meetings
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times
• Follow company vehicle policies and maintain assigned equipment
• Respond to calls and emails within 4 business hours
• Adhere to all company and job site safety protocols

Qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, HVAC Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
• 3+ years of experience in building automation, controls, or field engineering preferred
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Familiarity with BAS platforms such as: Johnson Controls, Automated Logic, Honeywell, Siemens
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
• Comfortable working in active job site environments
