About the Position

We are seeking a BAS / Controls Service Technician to support building automation and HVAC control systems throughout the greater New York City market.

This field-based role is responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, commissioning, maintaining, and optimizing building automation systems across a variety of commercial facilities. The position involves diagnosing controls-related issues, performing preventative maintenance, supporting system upgrades, and ensuring customers receive exceptional technical support.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with HVAC controls, building automation systems, electrical troubleshooting, and customer-facing field service work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform startup, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, and repair of building automation and HVAC control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues involving controllers, sensors, actuators, VFDs, field devices, and networked control systems.
  • Respond to service calls and provide corrective maintenance for BAS and HVAC control equipment.
  • Perform scheduled inspections, preventative maintenance, and system performance evaluations.
  • Support software, firmware, and controls upgrades as required.
  • Read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Commission and validate control sequences and system functionality.
  • Document service activities, findings, recommendations, and completed work through service reports and ticketing systems.
  • Coordinate with engineering and project teams to support retrofits, upgrades, and system enhancements.
  • Interface directly with customers to explain technical findings, recommend solutions, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Follow company safety standards, policies, and industry best practices while working independently in the field.
Qualifications
  • Experience servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) and HVAC controls.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC equipment, control sequences, and building systems.
  • Proven troubleshooting experience with controllers, sensors, actuators, relays, VFDs, and field devices.
  • Experience commissioning and starting up control systems in commercial building environments.
  • Working knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, control wiring, and basic networking concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret control schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage field service activities effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with building automation platforms, controls programming, graphics development, or BAS integration.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMI systems, BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other industrial communication protocols.
  • Experience with HVAC equipment such as air handlers, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, and related mechanical systems.
  • Previous experience supporting mission-critical, healthcare, commercial, or industrial facilities.
  • Technical Certificate or Associate Degree in HVAC, Electrical Technology, Controls, Automation, or a related field.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver\'s license and clean driving record.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to travel locally to customer sites throughout the assigned territory.
