Job summary

Vantage Consulting USA in New York is seeking a Senior Building Automation Engineer to lead BAS/BMS programming and integration across new and existing projects. You’ll design control sequences, develop graphics, and troubleshoot complex systems, with travel to customer sites and a hybrid NYC Metro work arrangement.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Building Automation or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and DDC controls.
  • Proven ability to program BAS/BMS systems from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Program, configure, and integrate BAS across new and existing installations.
  • Develop HVAC control sequences and advanced control strategies.
  • Create and configure graphics for BAS front-end platforms.
  • Design and support control networks and system architectures.
  • Commission and troubleshoot BAS projects from configuration to handover.

Senior Building Automation Engineer

Salary: $120,000 - $150,000

Hybrid, NYC Metro

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Building Automation Engineer to join a growing controls team working on sophisticated Building Automation and Building Management Systems throughout the New York Metro area.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone with strong experience in BAS/BMS programming, HVAC controls, system integration, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting. You will work across both new construction and existing-building projects, integrating multiple systems and technologies to deliver reliable, energy-efficient building control solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program, configure, and integrate Building Automation Systems across new and existing installations.
  • Develop and implement HVAC control sequences and advanced control strategies.
  • Create and configure graphics for BAS front-end platforms.
  • Design and support control networks and system architectures.
  • Program, commission, and troubleshoot BAS projects from initial configuration through completion.
  • Integrate multiple vendors and legacy control systems into cohesive, open-platform environments.
  • Work directly with customers and facility teams to understand requirements and resolve technical issues.
  • Lead and support field commissioning, testing, startup, and system troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex DDC network and controls issues.
  • Ensure systems are operating reliably and efficiently before project handover.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience within Building Automation, HVAC controls, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical sequences, DDC controls, and low-voltage control circuits.
  • Proven ability to program BAS systems from the ground up.
  • Advanced troubleshooting experience with Tridium Niagara N4.
  • Strong knowledge of open communication protocols including BACnet and Modbus.
  • Experience working with Honeywell controls and associated hardware/software is highly desirable.
  • Niagara N4 certification is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Comfortable working independently while taking ownership of technically complex projects.
Travel & Location
  • Primarily based throughout the New York Metro area.
  • Approximately 6 weeks of domestic travel per year to customer sites.
  • Travel expenses associated with customer visits are reimbursed.
