Job summary

Hotel Saint Augustine, operated by Bunkhouse Hotels, seeks a part-time Bartender to join the team in Houston. You will welcome guests, mix and serve drinks, and support bar operations while maintaining the venue’s standards.

Ideal candidates have at least 6 months of hospitality experience and flexible availability including evenings, weekends and holidays. The role emphasizes guest service, safety, and seamless collaboration with the restaurant and kitchen teams.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry.
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
• Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from patrons
• Mix ingredients to prepare and garnish cocktails and other beverages according to standards
• Serve snacks or food items to customers as requested or submit order to Kitchen
• Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment
• Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays
• Help plan and organize the menu and operations of the Cocktail Lounge or Bar
• Ensure immediate response is given to all guest comments and concerns and inform supervisor
• Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol
• Balance receipts and ensure payment is received from guests
• Limit problems related to excessive drinking by suggesting alternatives or arranging transportation
• Order or requisition liquors and supplies
• Ask customers who become loud and unruly to leave
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
• Perform other tasks as needed or as directed

Your role

As Bartender you will mix and serve drinks to patrons (directly or through wait staff), wait on bar patrons and serve items from the bar menu. A Bartender must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflicts and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies. All Bunkhouse/Hyatt employees are expected to greet all guests in proximity and make each feel important by providing a genuine welcome. Furthermore, Bartenders must develop and maintain the company’s culture, values, and reputation in the public eye, and with all staff, guests, vendors, and partners.

• Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment
• Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays
• Help plan and organize the menu and operations of the Cocktail Lounge or Bar
• Ensure immediate response is given to all guest comments and concerns and inform immediate supervisor of concerns.
• Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol
• Balance receipts and ensure payment is received from guests.
• Attempt to limit problems and liability related to customers’ excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading customers to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons
• Order or requisition liquors and supplies
• Ask customers who become loud and unruly to leave
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to sit, stand, and squat frequently.
