Job description

HANA MAKGEOLLI (hananmakgeolli.com; @hanamakgeolli) is a small Korean rice wine brewery based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We are the first producer of artisanal Korean rice wines here in NYC and the U.S. Our products showcase the breadth of the Korean sool category and are made with organic rice, using natural and traditional Korean brewing methodologies. We are currently looking for a bartender / server to join our team!

Role

The Bartender & Server is responsible for being a liaison with guests, receiving orders, serving alcoholic beverages and small plates, conducting tastings, and generally guiding guests through the Hana Makgeolli experience. The Bartender & Server will be expected to give service that is knowledgeable, approachable, efficient, and energetic. The role will also require supporting direct to consumer (DTC) sales through events and fulfillment of pick up, delivery and shipping orders.

  • Part-Time; Minimum 2 days a week on either Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays
  • Approximately 15-20 hours a week
  • Required to work from brewery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn
  • Note : In addition to the availability above and responsibilities below, we are looking for a bartender interested in prep on Thursdays at a non-tipped rate!

Responsibilities

  • Greeting and seating of by-reservation or walk-in guests
  • Full knowledge of small plates and beverage menu items
  • Assemble and serve alcoholic beverages and small plates for tasting room guests per Hana Makgeolli standards of quality
  • Prepare fresh juices, syrups, and batch cocktail components while maintaining detailed logs and ensuring consistent quality through precise measurement and proper storage procedures
  • Correct use of POS system for order entry, payment processing and receipt distribution
  • Ensure food and beverage arrive to guests quickly and correctly
  • Maintain the cleanliness of tasting room tools, equipment and guest areas
  • Communicate respectfully with kitchen, production team and managers as necessary to maintain cohesive service and building operations
  • Engage management with any guest issue or complaint
  • Support inventory management and stocking / preparing tasting room service related items
  • Packing and hand off of pick up and delivery orders from the brewery’s tasting room
  • Follow opening and closing procedures as needed
  • Support on premise event logistics and execution
  • Assist in DTC order fulfillment (pick up, delivery and shipping)

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of bartending experience
  • Strong beverage and / or fermentation knowledge and passion for the service industry
  • Availability in the late afternoon through evenings on Thursday through Sunday
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor when dealing with guests, managers and fellow employees
  • Able to meet physical demands of the position - standing for 5-8 hours, lifting heavy objects, etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate quick thinking and adaptability in a constantly changing environment
  • Exceptional work ethic and strong attention to detail
  • Team-oriented, responsive, and comfortable collaborating in a positive manner
  • Passion for breweries, wineries, or fermentation of all kinds is a plus!
  • 21 years old or over
