Job summary

Durango School District 9-R is seeking a Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional to support life skills learning and on-the-job training in the Common Grounds Cafe at the Durango Public Library. This 11-month role is 7.5 hours per day with full benefits and begins Sep 28, 2026.

You will train students in barista skills, supervise activities, and coordinate with local businesses to ensure quality product supply while fostering student growth in technical and interpersonal areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of college (associates degree or 48 semester hours) or pass paraprofessional test prior to hire.
• CPR and First Aid training preferred; CPI within three months of hire; Colorado driver's license may be required.
• Experience is preferred but may not be necessary for hiring.
• Knowledge of basic behavior support strategies and coordinating with educational staff.

Responsibilities

• Support instructional programs and provide applicable on the job training to students.
• Train and mentor students in technical work aspects and interpersonal skills.
• Assist in implementing IEP modifications and accommodations.
• Supervise and facilitate students in the Common Grounds Cafe.
• Coordinate with local businesses to ensure a steady supply of quality products.
• Maintain cleanliness and inventory of the cafe.
• Assist with data collection, updating records and documentation as required.
• Attend district and building in-service opportunities and committee work.
