Job summary

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN is seeking a part-time Barista to deliver the Starbucks experience with prompt service and quality beverages. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM at the Memphis location.

Responsibilities include operating the register, catering and pantry duties, maintaining HACCP-compliant practices, and staying current with industry trends while providing courteous service to customers.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience required with a High School diploma.
• Some direct hospital experience in food services/cooking in institutional kitchens preferred.
• Experience in hospitality service with food preparation or beverage service preferred.
• Knowledge of safety and sanitary requirements of food service operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day activities related to own area, including cash register and catering tasks.
• Utilize and update inventory control systems for the food service department.
• Respond to queries with prompt, courteous service.
• Understand dietary needs, allergens, and special meal preparations.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitary standards following HACCP guidelines.
• Keep up with trends in the food services industry.
• Escalate customer comments to leadership when needed.
• Complete training on seasonal beverages, promotions, and competencies.
• Carry out additional duties to meet department goals.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Position Summary

Ensures service standards are met and surpassed by creating the Starbucks experience for customers through prompt service, quality beverages and products, and adherence to Clean, Safe, and Ready practices.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Responsibilities

• Perform and manage day-to-day activities related to own area (e.g., operating cash register, catering, pantry duties), under less supervision.
• Utilize and update the Food Service department computerized inventory control management system.
• Resolve queries and provide support through prompt response and courteous service.
• Understand/ track dietary needs, allergens, and special meal preparations.
• Maintain and follow regulatory standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and freedom from hazards and infections; Follow Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines when handling food.
• Stay updated with the latest trends in the food services industry.
• Escalate all customer comments and complaints to the appropriate leaders.
• Complete all assigned training, including seasonal beverages, promotions, and annual competencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Experience Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant experience required with a High School diploma.
• No prior experience required with a Bachelor’s degree.
• Some direct hospital experience, in food services/ cooking in institutional kitchen/ catering, preferred.
• Some experience in hospitality service environment performing activities related to own area (e.g., Food preparation, Coffee/Beverage preparation), preferred.
• Good understanding of safety and sanitary requirements of a food service operation, preferred.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED is required
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
