Job summary

Saint Luke's is seeking a friendly Barista/Food Service Worker to join our hospital cafe team in Kansas City. You will prepare iced and hot beverages, serve pastries and gelato, and educate customers about our offerings with warm, personalized service.

Shifts run Monday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM, with time split between kitchen support and the coffee shop. You will operate the POS, handle cash, and help with closing duties before midnight.

Qualifications

Job Description

The barista prepares a variety of iced and hot beverage following the customer's orders and our standard recipes. The barista is responsible for serving all products with friendly, individualized attention towards each customer and educating customers about our many offerings including pastries, coffees, kombucha, gelato, and teas. The barista fulfills any other duties the management team assigns and represents Saint Luke's in a professional manner.

• Proficiently prepares drinks following customer orders and our standard recipes.
• Ensures that all drip coffee varieties are brewed fresh and replenished promptly.
• Maintains proper food handling procedures when serving drinks, pastries, and gelato.
• Routinely cleans and sanitizes workstations as well as customer seating areas and self service areas.
• Accurately rings sales orders into cash register and counts back change to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
• Greets all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with customers by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items.
• Restocks shelves and coolers with products while ensuring proper rotation procedures (FIFO).
• Follow proper cleaning procedures for all equipment (smoothie machine, espresso machines, dishwasher, coolers).
• Prepare to answer customer questions in a friendly manner, including directions around the hospital.
• Preps and prepares menu items and recipes as required based on inventory, rotation, and usage.
• Proficient on IT systems as required.
• Proficient in cash handling, counting, end of shift reports and cash drops.

This will be a Monday through Friday schedule from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM. The role will be a combination of Food Service Worker and Barista position. From 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, the employee will work in the kitchen assisting where needed and helping deliver patient trays. At 6:30 PM, they will transition to the coffee shop, where they will prepare for opening at 7:00 PM and operate the coffee shop until midnight. The remaining 30 minutes of the shift will be used to count the register, clean, and complete the closing checklist.
