The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is a luxury property featuring four penthouse suites and over 22,000 square feet of meeting space, including expansive exterior areas. Banquets, the Coastal Kitchen and Schooners Bar restaurants, Tidal Coffee, and Room Service provide various outstanding dining options. The Lobby Lounge offers libations, small bites, and live music most evenings. The Vista Blue Spa offers a wide array of services on the penthouse suite level and hosts a fitness center. Shopping options include the Vista Blue Spa, Tidal Coffee, the front desk, and onsite retail partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to the hotel’s high standard of customer service while standing behind the service counter or moving throughout the outlet and exterior seating areas.
- Handle all hospitality transactions while standing and maintaining continuous mobility throughout Tidal Coffee, exterior seating and the plaza.
- Welcome and greet guests promptly, courteously, and professionally, and provide prompt service in accordance with the time of day.
- Adhere to hotel service commitments and present oneself professionally at all times.
- Discover customer needs and take drink and food orders from guests in a timely manner.
- Prepare drinks to meet required standards.
- Prepare and set up the workstation continuously and timely.
- Walk through Tidal Coffee at regular intervals and monitor table cleanliness.
- Clear discarded items and wipe down tables and counters.
- Maintain cleanliness of workstation and outdoor areas.
- Stock and restock food and beverage items promptly.
- Follow proper cash handling and cash register procedures.
- Follow inventory stocking and recording guidelines.
- Contribute to goals and financial performance.
- Learn all aspects of the barista position, recipes and standards.
- Contribute to a safe work environment by reporting and acting on any unsafe conditions.
- Maintain equipment in like-new condition and report any issues to management or engineering.
- Actively promote hotel outlets and amenities.
- Stand and move behind the counter and throughout Tidal Coffee to continuously perform the essential functions of the position.
- Follow policies, procedures and standards.
- Follow safety procedures and policies to ensure a safe work environment.
- Complete all duties in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Follow beverage control policies in accordance with hotel and state law.
- Check workstation before opening for cleanliness.
- Perform all necessary set up and side work as per guidelines.
- Use the P.O.S. (point of sale) system per procedures.
- Balance sales daily after each shift.
- Perform designated cleaning and side duties as required.
- Pre-bus tables and set up Tidal Coffee prior to opening and monitor regularly throughout shift.
- Carry bank for change.
- Thank guests, bid them goodbye, and encourage them to return.
- Maintain knowledge of hotel facilities and surrounding area to assist guests appropriately.
- Follow instructions of the management team.
- Have knowledge of food preparation and plate presentation specifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of cafe operations, including appropriate staffing levels, service equipment and guest relations.
- Able to communicate effectively with the public and team members.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Follow instructions of the management team.
- Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to handle customer complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner, listening to concerns, demonstrating empathy, and providing proactive solutions.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to recite and promote a variety of menu items.
- Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using U.S. dollars.
- Ability to move through a crowded room to assist guests.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
- Meets legal age requirements for the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma is acceptable. A high school diploma is preferred. Prior hospitality experience is also preferred.

PAY SCALE
The pay scale for this position is $18.90 per hour, plus gratuities, with potential for an increase after six months.
ATTENDANCE AND SCHEDULE
Regular attendance is essential. Employees with irregular attendance may face disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect business needs.
Upon employment, all employees must fully comply with the Hotel’s rules and regulations for safe and efficient operation of the facility.
