Job summary

City of Hope is seeking a Barista to deliver exceptional customer service by preparing a range of beverages to customer specifications. You will operate cash registers, maintain a clean coffee bar, and ensure quick, friendly service in a healthcare campus environment.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, and Starbucks Barista Certification within 30 days of employment. Previous barista or food service experience is preferred, with opportunities to train and grow within City of Hope’s

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, take orders, and prepare hot and cold beverages to customer specifications.
• Operate cash register and payment systems; process sales accurately.
• Maintain clean and attractive coffee bar and display areas; stock supplies.
• Clean coffee machines and prep areas; ensure sanitary conditions at all times.
• Attend allergy/food safety trainings and safety meetings; follow all policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

This role provides exceptional customer service while making hand-crafted, quality beverages. The Barista will take orders and make coffee, tea and other drinks to customer specifications. The individual will also operate cash registers and credit card machines. The Barista fields customer complaints or questions while working to maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but City of Hope may identify other responsibilities of the position.

As a successful candidate, you will:

• Greets customers, take orders, mixes and serves hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, café latte, tea, chai, fruit blend drinks, etc. while considering customer specifications. May sell food items.
• Works to maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages and food items.
• Arranges coffee bar/cart supplies and cups/mugs to make attractive displays and maintains bar/cart area in a neat and sanitary manner.
• Often cleans coffee machines, restaurant areas and preparation areas.
• Records all sales, collects money, operates a cash register and follows all cash-handling procedures as required, including the operation of a cash/credit card/electronic payment register.
• Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training. Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments. Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
• May receive inventory and move/lift foodstuffs and supplies.
• Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures and reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
• Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
• Starbucks Baristas will be required to obtain “Starbucks Barista Certification” within 30 days of employment.
• Preferred Exp:Barista experience at a Starbucks location or in a food service setting.
