JOB DESCRIPTION
The Barista / Breakfast Attendant at Hyatt Place Milwaukee/Downtown is responsible for creating high-quality coffee and specialty beverages while also overseeing the breakfast bar area and ensuring the efficient delivery of the hotel’s complimentary breakfast. This dual-role position requires outstanding customer service, attention to detail, and adherence to hotel policies, procedures, and brand standards to achieve and maintain high levels of guest satisfaction, product quality, and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Barista – Primary Duties:
• Coffee Preparation: Prepare high-quality coffee and espresso-based beverages, including lattes, cappuccinos, and specialty drinks, following standardized recipes.
• Order Taking: Greet guests warmly, take accurate orders, and respond to guest preferences and requests.
• Equipment Operation: Operate espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and other beverage equipment safely and efficiently.
• Product Knowledge: Maintain in-depth knowledge of coffee beans, brewing methods, and drink customization options.
• Cleanliness & Sanitation: Clean and maintain all barista stations, tools, and equipment according to health and safety regulations.
• Stocking & Inventory: Stock and rotate supplies, monitor inventory levels, and report shortages or ordering needs.
• Sales & Upselling: Engage with guests to promote new beverages, pastries, and specials to increase sales.
• Guest Interaction: Provide friendly and courteous service while building rapport with repeat guests.
• Cash Handling: Process transactions accurately through the point-of-sale system, handle cash, and provide correct change.
Breakfast Attendant – Secondary Duties:
• Schedule Flexibility: Able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends as needed.
• Guest Interaction: Initiate and engage in conversations with guests, always providing friendly and courteous service.
• Appearance & Uniform: Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and wear the appropriate uniform.
• Greeting & Service: Greet guests, visitors, and staff in a courteous, professional manner. Respond to guest needs, special requests, and complaints in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Attention to Detail: Pay close attention to detail, visually inspect the breakfast area, compare observations to standards, and correct deficiencies as needed.
During Hours of Operation for Complimentary Breakfast:
• Set-up: Ensure breakfast items are properly set up, including clean tables, stocked buffet stations, and availability of necessary utensils (plates, glasses, cutlery, napkins).
• Guest Assistance: Greet guests upon entry, offer assistance, and provide information about available food options.
• Cleanliness: Bus and clean tables, arrange furniture, and maintain the overall cleanliness of the breakfast area.
• Trash Management: Empty trash receptacles as needed and maintain a tidy environment.
• Guest Farewell: Thank guests as they depart, ensuring a positive impression.
Close of the Complimentary Breakfast:
• Cleanup: Clean and mop the breakfast area, empty trash receptacles, and dispose of all food and drink items according to health codes.
• Restocking & Inventory: Dispose of leftover food properly, restock items for the next day, and perform an inventory check. Date and rotate stock as necessary.
• Equipment Maintenance: Clean all equipment and breakfast/kitchen areas, following proper hygiene standards.
• Supply Orders: Follow hotel procedures for placing orders for items that are below the required stock levels.
• Guest Satisfaction: Process guest invocations of the 100% Satisfaction Guarantee according to hotel standards.
• Safety & Security: Report on any suspicious activity involving guests, visitors, or staff. Ensure proper labeling of lost/found articles and turn them in to the appropriate Manager.
• Safety Protocols: Perform duties in accordance with Safety, Security Policies, OSHA, HAZCOM, and Blood Borne Pathogens regulations.
• Additional Duties: Assist with cleaning, stocking supplies, and other assignments as directed by management.
• Team Coordination: Collaborate with kitchen staff, housekeeping, and other team members to ensure a smooth guest experience from food preparation to dining area cleanliness.
• Public Area Inspection: Inspect and clean public areas to ensure a high level of presentation.
• Grasping & Lifting: Firm grasping required, with occasional lifting of supplies (up to 50 lbs).
• Standing & Walking: Able to stand and walk for 90% of the workday, with limited sitting during short breaks.
• Reaching & Mobility: Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending required, often up to 80% of the time.
• Bending & Stooping: Required up to 60% of the workday.
• Crouching & Kneeling: Required for cleaning tasks, approximately 25% of the time.
• Other Movements: Crawling and climbing stairs are minimal (less than 5% of the time).
QUALIFICATIONS
• Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.
• Customer Service: Friendly demeanor with strong customer service skills.
• Beverage Server Certification: Wisconsin alcohol server certification
• Experience: Previous experience as a barista or in a food and beverage or customer-focused role preferred.
