Job description

About the Role

The June is seeking a warm, skilled Barista to craft exceptional coffee, espresso, and tea and to set the tone for our members’ day. This role is responsible for preparing beverages with consistency and care, serving members and guests with genuine hospitality, and keeping our coffee bar clean, stocked, and welcoming. As a visible member of the team, the Barista plays an important part in the member experience, often as the first friendly face someone sees each morning.

The ideal candidate is personable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn, with a strong sense of urgency and a genuine passion for coffee and hospitality. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in beverage and hospitality within a new and growing concept.

Key Responsibilities

Beverage Preparation

  • Prepare espresso drinks, brewed coffee, tea, and other beverages to The June’s recipes and standards, with consistent quality and presentation.
  • Dial in and calibrate grinders and espresso machines, adjusting for freshness, humidity, and taste throughout service.
  • Steam and pour milk and milk alternatives with proper technique, and prepare latte art where appropriate.
  • Learn the coffee and tea program thoroughly, including origins, flavor profiles, and brewing methods, and describe offerings with confidence.
  • Prepare and plate pastries and light food items as assigned, following food safety and presentation standards.

Member & Guest Service

  • Greet every member and guest warmly, learn and use names, and note preferences so that no member has to introduce themselves twice.
  • Take orders accurately, move through busy periods efficiently, and keep lines and pickup moving with a calm, friendly presence.
  • Make thoughtful recommendations, and handle special requests and concerns with grace, involving a manager when appropriate.
  • Take allergy and dietary needs seriously: communicate them clearly, use clean tools, and never guess.
  • Support service for private events, meetings, and special programming as assigned.

Setup, Cleanliness & Sanitation

  • Complete opening and closing duties, including machine setup and breakdown, restocking milk, syrups, and supplies, and preparing the coffee bar for the next service.
  • Clean and maintain espresso machines, grinders, steam wands, brewers, and equipment on a daily and scheduled basis.
  • Keep the coffee bar, counters, and seating areas clean, organized, and presentable throughout service.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and safety procedures, including proper handling, labeling, dating, and storage.
  • Monitor par levels, assist with receiving and rotating stock, and communicate supply needs to a manager.

Teamwork & Professionalism

  • Use the point-of-sale system accurately, and handle cash and payments according to Company procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with servers, bartenders, kitchen team members, and fellow baristas to keep service moving.
  • Receive feedback constructively and look for opportunities to learn and grow within the beverage program.
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, respect, and high standards across The June.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a barista or in a similar coffee or hospitality role preferred, though we are happy to train the right person.
  • Working knowledge of espresso, milk steaming, and coffee brewing methods, and a desire to keep learning.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistency, cleanliness, and quality.
  • Warm, composed communication skills with members, guests, and teammates.
  • Comfort with point-of-sale systems and handling cash and payments accurately.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (milk, supplies, and equipment) and stand for extended periods throughout a shift.
  • Current food safety certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • A proactive, team-first mindset and willingness to jump in wherever support is needed.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a specialty coffee shop, café, hotel, or private club.
  • Latte art skills and knowledge of single-origin coffees and brewing methods.
  • Barista or specialty coffee training or certifications.
  • Interest in growing into a lead barista, beverage, or front-of-house role.
  • Experience supporting a restaurant or café opening or pre-opening training program.

At The June, great hospitality starts with the first cup. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in the craft, remembers names, and understands that a well-made drink and a warm welcome can set the tone for a member’s whole day.
