Job summary

The Bariatric Patient Care Coordinator at DHR Health helps patients navigate the system, explains surgery orders, and verifies insurance eligibility and benefits. You will schedule pre-surgical testing and coordinate in-hospital and in-office procedures, ensuring proper authorizations and data entry.

You’ll work with interdisciplinary teams, assist with financial screening when needed, and communicate clearly with patients, families, physicians, and staff to support a smooth surgical process.

Qualifications

• High School graduate/GED certificate or equivalent is required
• Bachelor’s Degree or course work toward a Bachelor’s preferred
• Ability to read, write and speak English, bi-lingual in Spanish preferred
• Previous healthcare experience (2 yrs.) is required, physician or hospital experience preferred
• Good working knowledge of insurance benefits and medical terminology
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, working knowledge of Excel; 35 WPM
• Previous experience working with interdisciplinary teams preferred
• Good organizational skills, written and verbal communication, and customer service
• Professionalism and clear communication with management, admin, and physicians
• Ability to schedule surgeries and coordinate pre-surgical testing

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision, and values to others
• Initiates communication with referral patients and outlines needs
• Coordinate and monitor pre-surgery documentation and resources
• Provide education and decision support related to medical and financial needs
• Collaborate with internal and external resources to meet patient needs
• Obtain physician orders and ensure pre-surgery appointments are attended
• Schedule in-hospital and in-office procedures and testing
• Verify benefits and determine eligibility for insurance
• Reference ICD-10-CM/CPT for eligibility and coverage
• Use verification systems (TMHP, Availity, Data Link) for benefits
• Manage timely filing deadlines and identify coordination of benefits
• Refer patient for financial screening if uninsured
• Ensure pre-auth/pre-cert requirements are met
• Follow up with hospital/patient as needed
• Adhere to managed care policies and respond to calls
• Scan information into EMR and perform other duties
