Job Summary
The Barback supports the bartending and Food & Beverage team by ensuring the bar is fully stocked, clean, organized, and ready to provide exceptional guest service. This position works closely with bartenders and supervisors to maintain smooth and efficient bar operations while upholding the service standards of InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.
Compensation
$10.00 per hour + tips
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist bartenders with daily bar setup, service, and closing procedures.
- Maintain adequate stock of liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and other bar supplies.
- Replenish products and supplies throughout service to prevent interruptions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, bar area, storage areas, and equipment.
- Wash, polish, and restock glassware as needed.
- Assist with preparation of garnishes, juices, and other bar items.
- Collect and remove empty bottles, glassware, trash, and other items from the bar area.
- Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating beverage products.
- Support bartenders during high-volume periods to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages or product needs to the bartender or supervisor.
- Follow proper food safety, sanitation, alcohol service, and hotel procedures.
- Assist with maintaining proper bar presentation and cleanliness throughout the shift.
- Provide friendly and professional assistance to guests when appropriate.
- Respond promptly to requests from bartenders, supervisors, and other Food & Beverage colleagues.
- Follow all IHG and InterContinental brand standards, policies, and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Previous bar, restaurant, hotel, or hospitality experience preferred.
- Strong customer service and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests and colleagues.
- Knowledge of basic bar operations is preferred.
- Must meet all applicable legal requirements for working in a bar and handling alcoholic beverages.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, and move throughout the bar and hotel.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods.
