Job Summary

The Barback at Ostras is responsible for supporting bartenders in all aspects of bar operations, ensuring a seamless and efficient workflow. This role involves maintaining stock levels, keeping the bar area clean and organized, and assisting with drink preparation. The Barback plays a crucial role in ensuring that guests receive prompt and excellent service.

Key Responsibilities

• Stocking and Inventory:
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of all bar supplies, including liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, and glassware.
  • Assist with the receipt and proper storage of deliveries.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and report any shortages to the Beverage Manager.
• Bar Maintenance:
  • Keep the bar area clean and organized, including washing glassware and cleaning surfaces.
  • Ensure all bar equipment is properly cleaned and maintained.
  • Dispose of trash and recyclables according to restaurant procedures.
• Service Support:
  • Assist bartenders with drink preparation during busy periods.
  • Refill ice bins, restock garnishes, and prepare mixers as needed.
  • Run food and beverages to guests in coordination with servers and food runners.
• Customer Interaction:
  • Engage with guests courteously and professionally, assisting with inquiries and providing information about menu items.
  • Support bartenders in providing exceptional service to ensure a positive guest experience.
• Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to maintain efficient service flow.
  • Assist in training new barback staff, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Support other team members as needed to ensure exceptional service.
• Safety and Sanitation:
  • Adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations, ensuring a clean and safe environment for guests and staff.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling and serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Report any maintenance or safety issues to the management team promptly.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience:
  • Previous experience as a barback or in a similar role in a fine dining or high-volume establishment is preferred but not required.
• Skills:
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with bar equipment and basic drink preparation is a plus.
