Job summary

JRDN Restaurant at Tower23 Hotel in San Diego is seeking a barback to support busy service at the oceanfront venue. You’ll assist bartenders, restock liquor and glassware, and keep the bar clean while delivering friendly service.

We offer competitive pay with tips, flexible scheduling, paid sick time after 90 days, and benefits; a San Diego Food Handler’s Card and Responsible Beverage Server training are preferred or can be arranged with company support.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months of barback experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexible availability - days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Deliver superior customer service with a customer-first attitude.
• Restock liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and other bar supplies.
• Assist bartenders with bar setup, breakdown, and preparation before, during, and after service.
• Wash, polish, and organize glassware, bar tools, and other service equipment.
• Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume.
• Answer food-related questions from guests.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, storage areas, refrigerators, and surrounding workspaces.
• Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and responsible alcohol service policies.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

JRDN Restaurant is Tower23 Hotel's 10,000 square foot award-winning contemporary oceanfront steak and seafood restaurant, featuring casually sophisticated cuisine for lunch + dinner daily, and weekend brunch. The restaurant entices guests with a California-fresh menu that can be experienced in the modern lounge or on the oceanfront terrace.

What You’ll Do

• Deliver superior customer service to all customers by acting with a “customer comes first” attitude
• Restock liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and other bar supplies as needed
• Assist bartenders with bar setup, breakdown, and preparation before, during, and after service
• Wash, polish, and organize glassware, bar tools, and other service equipment
• Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume
• Ability to completely answer food related questions from guests
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, storage areas, refrigerators, and surrounding workspaces
• Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and responsible alcohol service policies
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance

What We’re Looking For

• At least six (6) months of previous barback experience required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Well organized and detail oriented
• Self-motivated and works with a sense of urgency
• Valid San Diego Food Handler’s Card and Responsible Beverage Server training (or the ability to get one right after hire with company support)
• Flexible availability - must be able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays

PAY RATE: $17.75 per hour + tips
