Job summary

Tonto Verde is seeking a Bar Manager to lead all bar operations and ensure an exceptional member experience. You will oversee inventory, staff development, and beverage quality while collaborating with the General Manager and Executive Chef to support dining venues, special events, and member activities.

Responsibilities include team coaching, pre-shift education, menu development, cost control, and adherence to liquor laws.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years in bar management, preferably in a private club or upscale hospitality.
  • Deep knowledge of wine, beer, spirits, and cocktails.
  • Experience with inventory, purchasing, and staff development.
  • Arizona Title 4 certification or ability to obtain within required timeframe.

Reports To: General Manager, Executive Chef, and Food & Beverage Manager

Position Summary

The Bar Manager is responsible for leading all bar operations at Tonto Verde, ensuring an exceptional member and guest experience while maintaining the highest standards of hospitality, professionalism, and beverage quality. This position oversees daily bar operations, inventory management, staff training and development, financial performance, and compliance with all Arizona liquor laws and club policies. The Bar Manager works closely with the General Manager, Executive Chef, and Food & Beverage Manager to support the club's dining venues, special events, golf tournaments, wine dinners, bourbon tastings, and member programming.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
  • - Recruit, train, coach, and develop bartenders and bar staff.
  • - Conduct regular pre-shift meetings and ongoing beverage education.
  • - Foster a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and exceptional hospitality.
  • - Conduct performance evaluations and address performance concerns promptly.
  • - Maintain clear communication with the General Manager, Executive Chef, and Food & Beverage Manager to ensure consistent service standards and operational excellence.
Member Experience
  • - Deliver exceptional, personalized service to members and guests.
  • - Build relationships with members by recognizing preferences and anticipating needs.
  • - Resolve member concerns professionally and promptly.
  • - Maintain a welcoming, clean, and organized bar environment.
  • - Ensure all team members uphold Tonto Verde's standards of hospitality and professionalism.
Beverage Program
  • - Develop seasonal cocktail menus and specialty beverage features.
  • - Maintain wine, beer, and spirits selections that align with Tonto Verde's standards.
  • - Collaborate with the Executive Chef on food and beverage pairings, wine dinners, bourbon events, and member experiences.
  • - Ensure recipe consistency, proper presentation, and responsible alcohol service.
  • - Evaluate new products and industry trends to enhance the beverage program.
Inventory & Financial Management
  • - Complete accurate weekly liquor inventories.
  • - Monitor beverage cost, pour cost, and product usage.
  • - Order liquor, beer, wine, mixers, and bar supplies.
  • - Maintain proper inventory rotation and storage practices.
  • - Minimize waste, breakage, and product loss.
  • - Assist in achieving departmental financial goals through effective cost control.
Operations
  • - Ensure compliance with all Arizona liquor laws, health regulations, and Tonto Verde policies.
  • - Maintain health, sanitation, and safety standards throughout all bar operations.
  • - Oversee cleanliness, organization, and appearance of all bar areas.
  • - Ensure bar equipment is properly maintained and operational.
  • - Work collaboratively with the dining room, banquet, and culinary teams to provide seamless service.
  • - Maintain accurate records, invoices, and receiving documentation related to beverage operations.
Events & Member Programming
  • - Coordinate beverage service for banquets, weddings, golf tournaments, member events, and holiday functions.
  • - Support wine dinners, bourbon tastings, themed events, and other club-sponsored programming.
  • - Assist in creating innovative beverage experiences that enhance member engagement and satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • - Minimum of three (3) years of bar management experience, preferably in a private club, resort, or upscale hospitality environment.
  • - Strong knowledge of wine, beer, spirits, and classic cocktails.
  • - Experience with inventory control, purchasing, and staff development.
  • - Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • - Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as business demands require.
  • - Current Arizona Title 4 certification (or ability to obtain within the required timeframe).
Performance Expectations
  • - Deliver exceptional member and guest satisfaction through outstanding service.
  • - Maintain beverage costs and inventory within established budget goals.
  • - Complete accurate weekly inventories and purchasing.
  • - Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and fully stocked bar operation.
