Job summary

One Twenty Three Tavern in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Bar Back to support a fast-paced, guest-focused team. You will help set up, stock, and maintain the bar, assist bartenders, and ensure safe, clean service during busy showtimes and concessions.

The role requires knowledge of beer, wine and spirits, friendly communication, ability to multi-task, and availability nights and weekends. Certifications in Food Safety and Alcohol training are a plus; energetic team players are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Self-starter who is energetic and flexible.
• Food Safety and Alcohol training certificate preferred.
• Able to work under pressure and multi-task.
• Friendly, outgoing, and a team player.
• Able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
• Able to stand for 8+ hours and lift up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Greet and engage guests in a friendly manner.
• Set up, maintain and operate the bar.
• Keep bar area clean and sanitary.
• Prepare garnishes and set up mixers.
• Follow recipes and daily cleaning checklists.
• Ensure ID verification and responsible service.
• Stock glasses, liquors, beers, and wines.
• Support bartenders and other staff as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

At One Twenty Three Tavern, we are looking for experienced Bar Backs that love to create a fun and memorable experience for our guests. Our soul is that of a neighborhood restaurant. Our Bar Backs play a key role at One Twenty Three, serving a variety of guests, whether meeting for happy hour, dining or stopping by for a drink and appetizer before the show.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet and engage with all guests in a friendly, positive manner


• Helps sets‑up, maintain and operate the bar


• Maintains safe, secure and sanitary bar area and equipment


• Adheres to standardized recipes and department rules and procedures


• Prepares garnishes to ensure freshness and quality, set up mixers, and pre‑mixed drinks


• Follows cleaning checklists on a daily basis


• Ensure all guests have proper ID, are over 21 years of age, and that drinks are not served to intoxicated patrons


• Help keep bar stocked and organized as requested by bartenders


• Keeps clean dishes caught up and stocked through volume shift


• Mix, prepare, and serve drinks according to recipes


• Help clean the bar at the end of the night according to procedures


• Stock glasses, liquors, beers, and wines


• Other duties as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits and standard drink recipes required


• Strong verbal communication and listening skills


• Self‑starter who is energetic and flexible


• Certifications for Food Safety and Alcohol training certificate preferred


• Able to work under pressure, multi‑task, follow directions, and work with a team


• Can thrive in a fast‑paced environment


• Friendly, outgoing, and a team player


• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required


• Ability to be on your feet and active for 8 or more hours, climb stairs, lift up to 40lbs, and use basic cleaning equipment
