SUMMARY
The primary function of a bartender is to provide timely, accurate and friendly service while preparing the highest quality cocktails to our guests. The bartender serves beverages in a professional manner, provides sincere service through actions that display self-confidence, grace and courtesy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Have working knowledge of beer, wine and liquor and common drink recipes.
- Set-up bar including all liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, glassware and supplies.
- Prepare and serves beverages in a prompt and professional manner in accordance with established standards and responsible alcohol service.
- Greets quests pleasantly as they approach the banquet bar.
- Adheres to established pouring standards and drink recipes to provide a consistent product to the guests and to control costs.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of all service areas in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Work quickly and safely at all times.
- Maintain and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures.
- Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
- Be familiar with hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Actively participates in Safety Programs and abides by all injury reporting and safety behavior requirements.
- Participates in and supports hotel efforts towards community service, sustainability and environmental initiatives.
- Perform other duties as directed, developed or assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Minimum of 3 years Bartender experience in a 4 or 5 star resort environment.
- Cash handling and point of sale experience. (Micros preferred).
- TIPS certification.
- Valid San Diego County Food Handlers Card.
- Strong knowledge and Enforcement of ABC laws.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Ability to communicate in English with vendors, guests and staff, to their understanding.
Desirable
- Experience specifically in a AAA, Mobil, Relais & Chateaux or other highly rated
- Ability to communicate in other languages
- Certification in CPR
- Ability to work independently
SKILLS
Required
- Wine knowledge.
- Previous culinary experience.
- High school graduate or GED- equivalent.
- Certification of previous training in liquor, wine and food service.
- Ability to focus attention on service details.
Desirable
- Ability to anticipate and understand guests’ needs.
- Ability to move quickly and safely through workspace.
- Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
- Ability to follow directions thoroughly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting, and climbing. Have frequent need to perform standing and walking activities related to inspecting property.
- Constant need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, turning, finger dexterity.
- Frequent need to stand for long periods of time.
- Lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs. frequently and 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Vision requirements: constant need to view small print. Frequent need to see small details and things clearly beyond arms’ reach.
- Hearing requirements: constant need to speak on telephone and/or two-way radio, respond to general public and converse with staff. Ability to hear fire alarms and emergency equipment.
