Job summary

Oak View Group is seeking a Sous Chef to support the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations at the Palm Springs Convention Center. You’ll oversee food prep, banquet and buffet execution, staff supervision, scheduling, sanitation, and inventory management.

Role requires leadership, organization, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. This position pays an hourly rate of $25.00 – $30.00, with benefits including a 401(k) savings plan and matching.

Qualifications

• 2–3+ years of experience in upscale banquet, hotel, or convention center environments.
• Health & Sanitation Card required.
• Ability to communicate and follow instructions, multi-task in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Culinary training or school preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper preparation, quality, and cost controls for all dishes.
• Organize and assist in service for activities, meals, and private dining.
• Maintain consistent prep and presentation per standards and recipes.
• Train, supervise, and performance-manage staff when needed.
• Enhance team knowledge and service with strong leadership.
• Attend F&B and banquet meetings and line-ups.
• Prepare work schedules and monitor payroll and Kronos reports.
• Handle ordering, receiving, and rotation of food and kitchen goods.
• Develop menus for special requests with the Executive Chef.
• Expedite during meals, ensuring quality and portioning.
• Adhere to cleaning schedules and sanitation protocols.
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas, equipment, and waste areas.
• Assist others to deliver the 3 steps of service and respond to guest requests.
• Support teammates as needed and adapt to changing duties.
• Comply with all company policies and safety guidelines.
