Job summary

Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City is seeking a Banquet Cook to help deliver exceptional events, including weddings, conferences, and receptions, from 20 to 400+ guests. You’ll produce plated meals, buffets, hors d’oeuvres, and banquet items while upholding flavor, presentation, and safety standards.

You’ll report to the Executive Chef and collaborate with culinary and banquet leadership to ensure seamless execution.

Qualifications

  • Two to Three years of relevant experience in banquet cooking, catering, a commercial kitchen, or a sous chef or chef role is preferred.
  • Experience preparing and executing food for groups ranging from 20 to more than 400 guests.
  • Portfolio or examples of plated work that demonstrate culinary skills and presentation
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Creative, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to pivot when event needs change.
  • Team-first approach with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on events.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute food for weddings, conferences, receptions, banquets, and other special events ranging from 20 to more than 400 guests.
  • Produce plated meals, buffets, hors d'oeuvres, and other banquet items while maintaining standards for flavor, presentation, portioning, and temperature.
  • Read and follow banquet event orders, including timelines, guest counts, menu selections, dietary needs, and special requests.
  • Stay organized while preparing multiple dishes or supporting several events simultaneously.
  • Work efficiently in a high-volume culinary environment and adapt to changing guest counts and timelines.
  • Coordinate with culinary, banquet, conference management, and sales teams to ensure event details are understood and executed.
  • Assist with event preparation, cooking, plating, timing, breakdown, storage, and kitchen cleanup.
  • Maintain a clean, safe workspace following food safety standards.
  • Support training and coaching of culinary team members as assigned.
  • Assist Banquet Sous Chef with menu creation, costing, testing, and implementation.
