• Proven experience working with clients and developing case strategy.
• Admission to the New York Bar is required.
• Portable book valued around $500k is highly valued, but a smaller book may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Represent Chapter 11 debtors, trustees, secured lenders, and other stakeholders in complex matters.
• Lead case strategy and client communications for high-stakes matters.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and plan confirmations; manage negotiations.
• Advise on pre-bankruptcy planning, workouts, and related litigation.
• Handle insolvency proceedings including SIPA and related disputes.

AJ Chambers are delighted to be working with a highly regarded New York law firm seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Member to join its growing restructuring and insolvency practice.

The firm is looking for an attorney with 7+ years of experience across bankruptcy, restructuring, and related commercial litigation, with a strong track record handling sophisticated, high value matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior bankruptcy attorney to take significant responsibility for complex Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 matters while working directly with clients and playing a key role in case strategy.

The successful candidate will have experience advising and representing a broad range of stakeholders, including:

• Chapter 11 debtors, trustees, secured lenders, private equity funds, hedge funds, landlords, tenants, creditors, and other stakeholders.
• Clients involved in Chapter 11 reorganizations and Chapter 7 liquidations, including claim objections, plan confirmation, and related litigation.
• Parties requiring pre-bankruptcy planning, out of court workouts, receiverships, and assignments for the benefit of creditors.
• Clients involved in insolvency proceedings under the Securities Investor Protection Act (SIPA).
• Parties involved in distressed assets and special situations, including:
• Loan-to-own strategies
• Distressed debt restructurings
• Claims trading
• Clients involved in avoidance actions and other clawback litigation.
• Parties involved in complex commercial disputes both within and outside bankruptcy proceedings, including foreclosure, commercial fraud, securities disputes, unfair competition, employment-related disputes, and other high-stakes litigation in state and federal courts and arbitration.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 7+ years of relevant experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, and related commercial litigation.
• Significant experience handling sophisticated bankruptcy and restructuring matters, ideally including middle market and high profile engagements.
• Strong drafting, litigation, negotiation, and courtroom skills.
• The ability to manage complex matters with substantial individual responsibility.
• Proven experience working directly with clients and developing case strategy.
• Admission to the New York Bar is required.
• Portable business valued around the $500k is highly valued, however, for the right candidate, a much smaller book would be considered.
