Job summary

Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) is hiring a Waterjet/Bandsaw Technician to set up, program, and operate CNC waterjet and bandsaw machines at Picatinny Arsenal.

The role requires reading blueprints, performing first-article inspections, and maintaining equipment with a safety-first mindset. The ideal candidate has 1–3 years’ CNC experience, US citizenship, and the ability to obtain DoD clearance.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain a DoD security background investigation.
• Pass drug and alcohol testing.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Experience: 1-3 years operating CNC machinery (Waterjet preferred).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/blueprints.
• Proficient in basic shop math and tolerances.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
• Reliable with good attendance.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC waterjet machines and horizontal/vertical bandsaws.
• Load/unload raw materials using forklifts or overhead cranes.
• Load CNC programs and make minor offset adjustments for part accuracy.
• Perform first-article inspections with calipers, micrometers, gauges.
• Perform routine maintenance and keep workspace clean.
• Track material usage and log jobs in shop management system.
• Collaborate with engineers to resolve machining issues.
• Maintain a safe, organized work area and equipment.

Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) is currently seeking a Waterjet/Bandsaw Technician to join our team! This person is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC waterjet cutting systems and industrial bandsaws to produce high-quality parts from various materials (metals, plastics, composites). The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, can read blueprints with ease, and maintains a \"safety-first\" mindset. They will assist with the operation of equipment, tooling maintenance, and will ensure that all required processes are completed to produce parts. This position is located at Picatinny Arsenal.

What will you be doing?

This position will be a key member of the manufacturing team. Duties include:

• Machine Operation: Set up and operate CNC waterjet machines and horizontal/vertical bandsaws.


• Material Handling: Load and unload raw materials (plates, bars, tubes) using forklifts or overhead cranes.


• Programming & Adjustments: Select appropriate cutting parameters, load CNC programs, and make minor offset adjustments to ensure part accuracy.


• Quality Control: Perform first-article inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure parts meet blueprint specifications.


• Maintenance: Perform routine daily maintenance (e.g., nozzle changes, garnet refills, blade tensioning) and keep the workspace clean.


• Documentation: Track material usage and log completed jobs in our shop management system.


• Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.


• Maintain a clean work area and ensure safe operations of all equipment.

What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful?

This position will require the following skillsets and experience:

• Must be able to obtain a clearance through the DoD security background investigation process


• Pass drug and alcohol testing


• Must be a US Citizen


• Experience: 1-3 years of experience operating CNC machinery (Waterjet experience preferred; OMAX, Flow, etc. is a plus).


• Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.


• Math Skills: Proficient in basic shop math and understanding of tolerances.


• Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods in a manufacturing environment.


• Reliability: Strong attendance record and a proactive attitude toward problem-solving.


• Must be a team player, able to multitask and prioritize accordingly


• Basic PC knowledge (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)


• Must have a valid driver\'s license and be able to obtain a government driver\'s license


• High School diploma required, College degree not required but beneficial
