Role Overview

This person is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC waterjet cutting systems and industrial bandsaws to produce high-quality parts from various materials (metals, plastics, composites). The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, can read blueprints with ease, and maintains a "safety-first" mindset. They will assist with the operation of equipment, tooling maintenance, and will ensure that all required processes are completed to produce parts. This position is located at Picatinny Arsenal.

What will you be doing?

• Machine Operation: Set up and operate CNC waterjet machines and horizontal/vertical bandsaws.
• Material Handling: Load and unload raw materials (plates, bars, tubes) using forklifts or overhead cranes.
• Programming & Adjustments: Select appropriate cutting parameters, load CNC programs, and make minor offset adjustments to ensure part accuracy.
• Quality Control: Perform first‑article inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure parts meet blueprint specifications.
• Maintenance: Perform routine daily maintenance (e.g., nozzle changes, garnet refills, blade tensioning) and keep the workspace clean.
• Documentation: Track material usage and log completed jobs in the shop management system.
• Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
• Maintain a clean work area and ensure safe operations of all equipment.

What skills will the ideal candidate have to be successful?

• Must be able to obtain a clearance through the DoD security background investigation process.
• Pass drug and alcohol testing.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• 1–3 years of experience operating CNC machinery (waterjet experience preferred; OMAX, Flow, etc. are a plus).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Proficient in basic shop math and understanding of tolerances.
• Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong attendance record and a proactive attitude toward problem‑solving.
• Team player, able to multitask and prioritize accordingly.
• Basic PC knowledge (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a government driver’s license.
• High school diploma required; a college degree is not required but beneficial.
