Job description

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

1. Operate band saw to cut a variety of materials following established methods and procedures.
2. Operate grinder to grind a variety of materials to meet procedural requirements.
3. Work from mill orders and procedures to cut billets, ingots, bars, shapes, and other materials to specified lengths, and/or cut material samples from products for metallurgical use.
4. Stamp or mark and identify all pieces of material following established procedures and practices.
5. Operate crane and forklift to load and secure materials on cut-off beds and set for proper cut length. Operate as necessary to cut prescribed sections according to procedures. Mark and stamp discarded materials for reuse following procedures and practices.
6. Grind billets to desired finish.
7. Change band saw blades and grinding wheels, and maintain adequate cooling supply.
8. Check coolant using refractometer and perform conversions to determine coolant concentration.
9. Comply with prescribed safety regulations and maintain a clean work area.
10. Calculate pounds per inch to determine final lengths.
11. Order and maintain parts inventory.
12. Perform all scheduled maintenance.
13. Schedule saw operation to supply all furnaces with material.
14. Inspect billets to identify clearance needs.
15. Maintain inventory of supply items.
16. Create documentation for record keeping as needed.
17. Perform final inspection.
18. Verify alloy composition to ensure ingot matches specified alloy and that stamped identities are clear and legible.
19. Unload incoming D-Rounds and maintain storage areas.

NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor or work leader.

• Ability to read and follow written procedures and properly use measuring devices.
