Job summary

The Director of Government Relations serves as a member of the Mayor's Cabinet and Executive Team and is the mayor's chief advisor on legislative and intergovernmental affairs.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director develops and executes the Administration's policy strategy, advances priorities before the Baltimore City Council, the Maryland General Assembly, Congress, and other bodies, and cultivates key stakeholder relationships with elected officials and partners.

Qualifications

  • Eight or more years of progressively responsible leadership in government relations or public policy.
  • Experience advising senior executives or elected officials.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams and complex initiatives.
  • Outstanding political judgment, diplomacy, negotiation, and consensus-building abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Mayor's Cabinet and advise on legislative strategy.
  • Develop and execute the mayor's legislative agenda before City Council and General Assembly.
  • Build relationships with elected officials and stakeholders.
  • Lead the Office of Government Relations and coordinate cross‑agency priorities.
  • Represent the Mayor in negotiations, hearings, and budget discussions.
