Position Summary
Provides security for the school district staff, students, buildings and property through patrol of school building(s) and building perimeters, including parking lots, to prevent unauthorized visitors or property damage and to provide for general building security; does related work as required.
Job Duties
Under general supervision, security guards are responsible for maintaining over-all security for all occupants and property of the assigned school district buildings, parking lots and sites in accordance with established security procedures. This classification is unarmed and does not have the power to arrest individuals for security breaches. This position is distinguished from the Safety and Security Officer in that this position is not responsible for conducting inspections of building and grounds for hazardous conditions and/or safety violations. The security guard must comply with the duties outlined by their superior.
Qualifications and Required Documents
- A Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old
- A Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old
- A FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 5 year old
- Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than 3 months
- 3 professional references (contact information) and/or letters
- Routing number and account number for direct deposit setup
- 2 Valid forms of Identification for I-9

Essential Functions
- Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school board policies.
- Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
- Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
- Supervises and directs pupil movement.
- Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
- Operates metal detectors and conducts searches when directed to do so.
- Investigates student violations of school board policies and prepares reports of the results.
- Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses and law violations.
- Assists with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations.
- Supervises classroom behavior in lieu of faculty.
- Maintains security records, logs and reports.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Night and weekend work is available for extra hours during school dances, sporting events and other events as needed.

Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
- Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two‑way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key.
- Must be able to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Must speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
- Articulate information in an emergency situation.
- Must have physical agility and strength to defend self and detain persons using force if necessary.

Work Environment
Physical Environment
- Work is performed in all areas of district buildings, grounds, parking lots, and/or anywhere on district property.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near stationary or moving vehicles.
- Exposed to varying degrees of temperature relative to the conditions occurring in nature outside.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

- The ability to work with students and adults displaying a variety of emotions including, but not limited to, joy, happiness, sorrow, fear, anger and aggression in controlled, uncontrolled and unpredictable situations.
Position Type: Part-Time Temporary
Salary: $15 to $15 Per Hour
