Job summary

Albertsons Companies is seeking a seasoned Department Manager / Store Director to lead cross-department operations across multiple states. The role focuses on merchandising plans, staff coaching, and ensuring compliance with company policies.

Expect frequent travel and a strong emphasis on customer service and sales growth. The position requires a college degree or equivalent, 5+ years in grocery retail, and proven leadership across Front End, Grocery, and Fresh operations.

Responsibilities

• Travels to assigned stores with the Department Manager to share merchandising plans and meet sales, gross and labor targets.
• Counsels department Managers and Store Directors in merchandising and customer service.
• Visits stores to evaluate department presentation, cleanliness, compliance and program execution.
• Measures store-level performance through sales, gross profit and labor percent.
• Executes plans based on store visits and result reviews.
• Provides input to Store Director on department performance.
• Trains department managers in basics of the business and managing their department.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Travels to assigned stores working with the Department Manager and staff to share merchandising plans for departments to meet sales, gross and labor targets.
• Works with and counsels department Managers and Store Directors in all aspects of product merchandising and customer service.
• Visits stores and evaluates on overall department presentation, cleanliness, compliance and program execution to company policy and procedures.
• Measurers store level performance through department sales, gross profit and labor percent.
• Executes plans measured through store visits, reviewing results of plans, and observing store department conditions.
• Determines success of training programs by reviewing and assessing evaluations.
• Provide work guidance to store associates in areas such as product knowledge, sales and marketing techniques, understanding of profit and loss and compliance with company policies.
• Trains department managers basics of the business and managing their department.
• Provides input to Store Director on Store Department Manager performance.

SCOPE DATA:

• Multiple state responsibility
• Varying types of areas urban vs rural within one Division

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Education Level:

College degree or equivalent work experience.

Experience Level:

5+ years in grocery retail with a strong understanding across all departments to include Front End, Grocery and Fresh operations

Skills and Experiences:

• Must possess previous Department Manager and Store Director experience.
• Possess good written and verbal communication skills and deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the phone.
• Possess a marketing orientation, good analytical and problem solving abilities.
• Possess math skills to complete straightforward analysis.
• Possess strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate others without directly supervising.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Division-wide travel, up to 70%.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

• Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
• Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
• Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
• Incumbent could spend a majority of time traveling throughout the Division visiting retail units, attending hearings and arbitration, etc.
• Must have own transportation and be available for overnight travel.
