Job summary

Albertsons Companies is seeking a capable Grocery Department Manager to lead day-to-day operations across Frozen, Dairy, and Liquor/Beer sections with a focus on merchandising, inventory control, and exceptional customer service.

You will coach and develop department staff, manage scheduling and performance, and drive sales while ensuring compliance with safety and policy standards in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in grocery retail management or leadership preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department, including Frozen, Dairy, and Liquor/Beer areas, ensuring merchandising, inventory, and customer service standards.
• Champion a customer-first culture and support store customer service initiatives.
• Oversee inventory management, stock replenishment, pricing compliance, and shrink control to maximize sales and profitability.
• Supervise, coach, train, and develop department employees; foster a positive work environment.
• Monitor sales, labor, and financial performance to inform business decisions and promotional planning.
• Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and company policies throughout the department and store.
• Build strong relationships with customers, employees, and vendors; resolve concerns and support objectives.
• Serve as store leader in the absence of the Store Director; direct overall store operations.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department, including Frozen, Dairy, and Liquor/Beer areas, ensuring efficient execution of merchandising, inventory, and customer service standards.
• Champion and promote a customer-first culture by delivering exceptional service and supporting company customer service initiatives across the store.
• Oversee inventory management, product ordering, stock replenishment, pricing compliance, product rotation, and shrink control to maximize sales and profitability.
• Supervise, coach, train, schedule, and develop department employees while fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Monitor departmental sales, labor performance, and financial results, using profit and loss information to support business decisions and promotional planning.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, security, operational, and company policy standards throughout the department and store.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, employees, and vendors while resolving concerns and supporting business objectives.
• Serve as the store leader in the absence of the Store Director, directing overall store operations and supporting department managers to achieve sales and operational goals

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift, move, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.

• Educational requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education in business, retail management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant retail leadership experience will be considered.
• Other requirements:
  • Extensive retail experience with prior management responsibility in a retail environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee, sales, and company information.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work in a temperature-controlled retail environment with occasional exposure to refrigerated, freezer, heated, and outdoor conditions.
