Job summary

Hy-Vee’s Bakery Assistant Department Manager is responsible for overseeing daily bakery production, leading and developing the team, and ensuring the display cases are stocked with fresh, high-quality product. You will partner with the Bakery Department Manager and manage tasks, schedules, and training to drive excellent customer service and department standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Over one year up to three years of similar or related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer warmly and handling concerns promptly.
• Check orders for the day, set up production timeline and assign tasks to bakers.
• Review daily production list, organize flow, and create additional schedule as needed.
• Rotate display case product and monitor freshness and replenishment.
• Plan ahead for upcoming sales weeks and production needs.
• Create closing lists and assign duties to part-time staff.
• Ensure department standards for production, cleanliness, and customer service.
• Train new employees and support bakery team development.
• Instruct and review work, coordinate activities and allocate staff.
• Assume management responsibilities in absence of the Department Manager.
• Fill in for absent employees during production days.
• Maintain sanitation and safe work environment.
