Job summary

Balls Food Stores’ Hen House bakery is seeking a motivated Bakery Clerk to help stock and prepare bakery products, assist guests, and keep displays inviting and up to standard.

As part of the Balls Food Stores family, you’ll work with a team dedicated to quality, guest experiences, and teamwork while maintaining food safety and product freshness on a daily basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Experience in grocery/retail/food service preferred.
• Food safety knowledge; certification a plus.
• Experience with baking, ovens, fryers, slicers preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support hospitality by providing friendly service and maintaining presentation.
• Deliver friendly and respectful service for a positive shopping experience.
• Package, label, stock, and display bakery products with quality and safety in mind.
• Prepare and bake items like donuts, pastries, and cookies per production schedules.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas per sanitation guidelines.
• Assist guests with product selection, allergen information, and special orders.
• Stock, rotate, and merchandise using FIFO to minimize waste and maintain presentation.
• Operate POS systems and related equipment accurately to support transactions.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs or quality concerns.
• Collaborate with teammates across departments to support store operations.
• Follow policies, safety standards, and participate in trainings and development.
• Remain productive during slower periods by cleaning or supporting other areas.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Support exceptional guest hospitality by providing friendly service, maintaining product presentation and department standards, and completing daily tasks that contribute to efficient store operations and sales growth

• Assist guests with product selection, recommendations, allergen information, and special orders
• Stock, rotate, and merchandise products using FIFO methods to minimize waste and maintain presentation
• Operate POS systems, scales, and related equipment accurately to support efficient transactions
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate product needs, shortages, or quality concerns
• Collaborate with teammates across departments to support store operations and a positive team environment
• Follow company policies, safety standards, and expectations, including participation in trainings and ongoing development
• Remain productive during slower periods by cleaning, restocking, or supporting other areas of the store

Minimum Qualifications:

• Required: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
• Required: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Preferred: Experience in grocery, retail, or food service environments
• Preferred: Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (certification a plus)
• Preferred: Experience with food preparation, baking, or kitchen equipment (ovens, fryers, slicers)
