Job Title: Bakery Clerk

General Function: Responsible for reviewing daily orders, preparing & replenishing products in a prompt, efficient, and friendly manner. Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Bakery Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience.
• Greet customers in a friendly manner and learn their names when possible.
• Assist customers with locating products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
• Review food for freshness and order status.
• Take customer orders at the bakery counter.
• Work with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep work area clean.
• Ensure adequate food supply, prepare, finish, and replenish products.
• Handle product from cooler/freezer, check in product, and review invoices.
• Operate registers and handle payments where applicable.
• Maintain personal hygiene and dress standards.
• Report to work on time as scheduled.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Wash dishes as needed.
• Order products and supplies.
• Price products for customers.
• Deliver orders as needed.
• Assist in other store areas as needed.
• Perform other duties and projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Basic math skills including addition and subtraction.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and demonstrated instructions.

Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience, with six months or less of related work experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual requirements include clarity of vision at various distances, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Work is conducted in a store environment with exposure to flour dust, noise, chemicals, electrical shocks, and temperature extremes. There is pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities.

Equipment Used

Mixers, ovens, wrapping machines, label printers, cash registers, dishwashers, bread slicers, electric knives, microwaves, airbrushes, and copy machines.

Daily contact with the public, customers, and regulatory agencies.

The starting hourly wage is $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience.
